What to expect on Incahuasi
Incahuasi is a rocky island on the salt flat. The island has cacti and rock formations, and a walkable climb leads to a viewpoint with a view over the salt flat. Tours reach it on a day trip or on the first day of a multi-day jeep trip.
The entry fee is BOB 30 per person in 2026. It is an extra, not part of the day-tour price, and is paid on site in bolivianos, so keep cash with you. If you have no tour yet, compare Uyuni salt flat tours and check that the island stop is part of the program.

Salt flat tours that include Incahuasi
Day trips and 3-day jeep tours across the salt flat, with current prices and availability.
A day tour route with the island
One day-tour program runs from the train cemetery to Colchani, then to the salt mounds and the Ojos de Sal, the Dakar monument and a salt hotel museum. After that comes Incahuasi, then free time for photos and sunset before the drive back to Uyuni. Another operator adds a flag stop, so stops differ between programs.
Ask your guide how much time you will have on the island. The walk to the viewpoint is the main reason to allow time. See the train cemetery for the first stop, and the sunset and stars page for the evening.

When the island is not on the route
Water and season decide, not the calendar.
A flooded salt flat
When the salt flat is flooded, operators replace the island visit with mirror photos, so the island is not reached. From January to April the island visit can be skipped and routes can change. Do not book on the assumption that Incahuasi is included in every month.
Mirror effect โThe dry season
In the dry months the island is part of the usual day-tour route. The best time to visit page compares both seasons.
Cash
Entry fees are paid in bolivianos on site, and there are no cash machines after you leave Uyuni. Withdraw cash in town before the trip.
Sun and altitude
Bring sunglasses, sun protection and a hat. The salt flat lies at roughly 3,600 m, so go slowly on the climb and read about altitude first.
