Where you can sleep in salt
There are two ways to stay in a salt building. You can book a hotel at the edge of the salt flat, or you can sleep in a basic salt lodge as part of a multi-day tour. Hotels are not on the central salt surface. Palacio de Sal stands at the edge of the salar, reached through Colchani, and Luna Salada also lies at the edge. If you prefer to keep the nights simple, a 3-day Uyuni tour includes the lodging in its price.
Day tours add a stop at a salt hotel museum, which is a quick way to see the style without staying.

The salt hotels compared
Where each one is and how you reach it.
| Place | Where | Good to know | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Palacio de Sal | Edge of the salar, access via Colchani | Own transfers to Uyuni, with times that depend on flight schedules; extra rides cost extra | A hotel night near the flat |
| Luna Salada | Edge of the salar, about 20 minutes from Colchani | Breakfast included in the stay | A hotel night near the flat |
| Nuevo Amanecer | Atullcha | First night of a Uyuni to Chile route; a simple lodge | Multi-day tour travelers |
| Andina Maypo | Colcha K | Second night of a San Pedro to Uyuni route | Multi-day tour travelers |
| Playa Blanca | Tour stop | A stop on day tours, not a place to book a night | โ |
For most visitors who want a night near the flat, Palacio de Sal or Luna Salada works as a base. For the lagoons, take a multi-day tour and sleep where the route stops.

The places in detail
What each stay is like.
Palacio de Sal
The hotel lies at the edge of the salar, with access through Colchani. It is not a hotel in the middle of the flat. It runs its own transfers to Uyuni. Exact times follow the flight schedules, and extra rides cost extra. Ask for your dates when you book.
Luna Salada
The hotel lies at the edge of the salar, about 20 minutes from Colchani. Breakfast is part of the stay. Ask the hotel about rooms, prices and children for your dates.
Nuevo Amanecer, Atullcha
One operator uses this lodge for the first night of its Uyuni to Chile route. It is a simple lodge, so do not expect the standard of the two hotels above.
Andina Maypo, Colcha K
A salt hotel in Colcha K is the second night of a 3-day, 2-night trip from San Pedro de Atacama that ends in Uyuni (245,000 CLP or $260 per person in 2026). Offers can name alternative lodgings for a night, so ask which one you get. See the San Pedro de Atacama route.
Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca appears on day tours as a stop. Treat it as a photo stop and not as a booking. If you hope to sleep there, ask a hotel or operator first.
What to check before you book
Salt hotels differ in more than looks.
Location and transfers
A hotel at the edge of the salar is a drive from town. Ask about transfers, who runs them, when they leave and what extra rides cost.
Heating and bedding
Nights are very cold. One 3-day offer includes a basic room and a sleeping bag but excludes room heating. Ask whether the room is heated, and pack for the cold. See our packing list.
Meals and fees
Check whether breakfast is included, and which meals the tour price covers. Park entries, water and snacks are often paid separately on multi-day tours.
Prices and dates
Nightly prices and children's rules change by date and room, so ask the hotel directly. Tour prices that include lodging are easier to compare, see Uyuni salt flat tours.

Uyuni salt hotels: frequently asked questions
Are there hotels on the salt flat itself?
The hotels named here stand at the edge of the salar, not on the central salt surface. Palacio de Sal is reached through Colchani, and Luna Salada lies about 20 minutes from Colchani.
Can I stay at Playa Blanca?
Playa Blanca is a stop on day tours. Do not plan an overnight stay there without checking with a hotel or operator first.
What does a salt hotel cost?
Prices change by date and room, so ask the hotel for your dates. A multi-day tour that includes lodging is easier to price: one operator charges BOB 1,560 or $195 per person for 3 days and 2 nights from Uyuni in 2026, with park entries, water and snacks extra.
Is breakfast included?
At Luna Salada, breakfast is part of the stay. On tours, the meals depend on the operator, so ask what the price covers.
Are salt hotel rooms heated?
Do not assume it. One 3-day offer excludes room heating and includes a sleeping bag instead. Ask the hotel or operator, and bring warm layers.
Is this an official tourism site?
No. This is an independent travel guide. It is not run by the Bolivian tourism authorities, any hotel or any tour operator.
