How Uyuni Salt Flat tours differ
Every tour on the salt flat is a jeep tour with a driver-guide. What changes is the length and the route. A day tour stays on and around the flat. A 3-day tour adds the lagoons, the desert and the hot springs of the Eduardo Avaroa reserve. Trips from San Pedro de Atacama run the same landscape in the other direction.
A typical day tour leaves around 10:30 and runs 9 to 10 hours: train cemetery, Colchani, salt mounds, the flag stop, a salt hotel museum, Incahuasi Island when the flat is dry, and time for photos and sunset before you return to Uyuni. Check that lunch is included. The guide is often a Spanish-speaking driver, and an English-speaking guide can cost extra.

Our picks: Uyuni tours
The full-day jeep tour with lunch suits you if you have one day and a hotel in Uyuni. Take the sunset and starlight tour for an evening of about four hours, and the two-day bus package from La Paz if the journey itself needs booking.

Prices in two currencies are the offer's own figures, not an exchange rate. For most first-time visitors with one or two days, a day tour covers the salt flat. For most travellers who want the lagoons and the flamingos, the 3-day tour is the usual choice. Details are on the pages for the 3-day tour and the trip from San Pedro de Atacama.
What the tour price usually leaves out
Check these before you compare totals.
Incahuasi Island
One day tour charges BOB 30 per person for the island, toilets, water and snacks on top of the tour price. The amount can change. Details are on the page for Incahuasi Island.
Park fees on multi-day tours
The Eduardo Avaroa reserve fee is BOB 150 per person. One 3-day offer puts the park posts at BOB 210 combined. Both are paid separately from the tour price, usually in cash in bolivianos.
Water, snacks and heating
Multi-day offers often leave out water and snacks. One offer excludes room heating, and a sleeping bag matters in winter. See what to pack.
Booking terms
Terms differ by offer. One 3-day offer allows changes or cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. Another refunds 80 percent up to 48 hours before. Read the terms before you pay, and ask what happens if a tour cannot run.
Season, ages and current conditions
Three things that can change your tour.
Wet season routes
When the flat is flooded, operators change the route. From January to April the island visit can drop out, and the tour then offers mirror photos instead. See the mirror effect and the best time to visit.
Children and pregnancy
One day tour sets a minimum age of 8. One operator on the route from San Pedro does not take children under 6 or pregnant women. These are operator rules, not general laws, so ask about your own booking. The nights are at altitude, which matters for families.
Fuel shortage in September 2026
In September 2026, fuel shortages in Uyuni led to cancelled tours. Check the current situation before you book.
Uyuni tours: frequently asked questions
Which Uyuni tour is best?
That depends on your time and the season. A day tour suits one day and the flat itself. A 3-day tour adds lagoons, geysers and hot springs. If you are heading to Chile, the trip from Uyuni to San Pedro saves a separate journey. The table above compares single offers, not a ranking.
How much does an Uyuni tour cost?
The 2026 examples above range from $50 for a day tour to $300 for a 4-day trip from San Pedro. Each is one offer for one person, and the totals depend on what is included. Park fees and snacks are often extra.
Is lunch included on the day tour?
The direct day-tour offer above includes lunch, a snack at sunset and rubber boots in the rainy season. Check what the other offers include.
Do I need to book ahead?
Availability depends on your date. Check it before you plan around a tour, especially if you travel on a fixed schedule.
Can I do the tour if I am worried about altitude?
The flat lies at about 3,600 m and the multi-day tours sleep higher. Read the general advice on altitude and talk to a doctor before you travel.
